Tone Leisure, the charitable trust that operates sports and leisure facilities on behalf of South Hams District Council and Taunton Deane Borough Council, has become the first leisure trust in the south west to be awarded the Social Enterprise Mark.

A Taunton walking scheme is celebrating its fifth birthday with the news that the total number of yearly participants recorded has increased by over 3,000 since the scheme began in 2005 – and it is now launching a new-look programme of walks for summer 2010 to encourage even more people to take part.

THE popular learner pool at St James Street Baths in Taunton is to close on Sunday July 25 to allow vital remedial work to be carried out.
The pool, owned by Taunton Deane Borough Council and operated by charitable trust Tone Leisure on behalf of the Council, is used by thousands of schoolchildren each year and for swimming lessons. It is not open to the wider public.

Results from a family-focused treatment and prevention programme for children who are over a healthy weight indicate the effectiveness of the initiative as a key tool to tackle the growing problem of childhood obesity, claims charitable trust Tone Leisure.
