FIFA COMES TO QUAYSIDE
Thursday, 18 February 2010
Tone Leisure’s Quayside Leisure Centre is launching Futsal in February.
The game of Futsal originated in South America, in the streets of Sao Paolo & Montevideo. Such stars as Denilson, Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos grew up playing the sport and so the game has gained a reputation of promoting skill and close ball control.
It is played on an indoor pitch with marked dimensions and is an ideal training situation for budding football stars. From these roots the game has developed with National and International championships.
Futsal in England is growing, with regional leagues and a national team, competing internationally. The sport is the only 5 a side soccer game recognised by FIFA and is actively being promoted in England by the Football Association and the locally by the Devon FA.
A ten week course is being launched at Quayside Leisure Centre on Saturday 6th February from 11am – 12.30pm
The idea is to learn the necessary skills and then set up your own team and enter the local league. The 10 week course is being delivered by qualified staff at a reduced rate of only £8 (for the whole course). The first two sessions are free to encourage youngsters aged 11- 15yrs to come along and try.
“This is a great opportunity for young people to get involved at the grass roots of a new tournament”
said Nigel Whitmore, Duty Manager at Quayside.
“Those who want to know what the future of 5 a side is, need to check out the Futsal website at www.futsaluk.net
“As the organisers agree, It’s More then Just a Game!”
