What does Concession mean?

We have two levels of concessionary Buzz Cards. One level is for customers on low incomes and in receipt of benefits (Access to Leisure). The second level is a discount for full time students under 22 or for those customers who are over 60. These cards enable you to use our facilities at a discounted rate. You need to be a resident of Taunton Deane to qualify or a resident of South Hams. You will be required to provide proof of residency via a utility bill or some evidence of your address.

How do I qualify for Access to Leisure?

If you are in receipt of the following benefits you can apply for an Access to Leisure card for yourself or your dependents: * Income Support * Minimum income guaranteed for Pensioners (Pension Credit) * Housing Benefit * Council Tax Benefit (not single occupancy) * Working Tax Credit (with total household income below £16,040 - rising to £16,190 from 1st April 2010) * Job Seeker's Allowance (Income Based)

How do I apply for an Access to Leisure Card?

An application can be taken out at our facilities at any time in Taunton. A card costs £2 An application can be taken out at any time in South Hams, excluding Totnes Pavilion and Totnes and District Swimming Pool. A card costs £1. Please bring the following documentation when applying for a card: * Completed Buzz Application form available from centre reception, for each member of the family appplying * Proof of benefit. Please bring your current award letter from the appropriate agency. This letter must be less than 3 months old and must show that you are currently in receipt of the appropriate benefit. * Proof of residence in Taunton Deane or the South Hams. An official letter to your home address such as a Council Tax or utilities bill with your name on it. * Child dependents. If you are applying for a card for your children (aged 15 or under)in addition, please bring Chiuld Benefit documentation containing proof of address. * Adult dependents. Dependents must be named on Award letter and in addition please bring an official letter containing name and current address (Council Tax bill, gas or electricity bill etc) We will ask to see proof as listed above at six monthly intervals. Proof is required for all card holders.

How can I prove I'm a full time student and get a Buzz card?

If you are under 16 years of age or in receipt of EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance) or have a letter from school, college or university showing full time student status, and proof of residence in the area, then you can qualify for a Buzz Card entitling you to the relevant concessionary rate. You will need to bring these proofs with you when you come in and fill out an application form. There is a £2 charge for a Student/ Junior Buzz Card

I'm disabled, do I get a discount?

Yes. If you are disabled you can get a Buzz Card in the South Hams giving you concessionary discount on activities. You will need to provide proof of disability or show an HC1 exemption certificate. For those who require assistance in the pool through physical or mental impairment, carers go free (South Hams only). The cost of a Buzz Card is £2

I'm over 60 and I hear you do free swimming?

Yes. We currently offer free swimming to all residents over the age of 60. The swim4life free swimming initiative is a government funded scheme which will run for a further year. To participate in this scheme you will need to register on the scheme by obtaining a Buzz Card. To get your card you will have to fill out an appplication form, obtainable from reception and bring the following proofs: * Award letter for pension * Birth Certificate or Passport swim4life provides FREE public swimming sessions to registered users over the age of 60. Registration costs £1. Holding a Buzz Card allows over 60's to benefit from concessionary rates on all other activities as listed on the current price list.
